Bread of Blessing: A Harvest Spell for Abundance
A spell for the hearth and hands, to be performed while baking bread in August, under the waning summer sun and the watchful eye of the Crone.
Purpose:
To call in abundance, peace, and gratitude as you honor your labor and the turning of the Wheel during Lughnasadh and late summer.
✨ What You’ll Need:
In addition to your usual bread recipe, gather:
- A pinch of rosemary – for protection and remembrance
- A drizzle of honey – for sweetness and prosperity
- A few sunflower seeds or oats – for harvest and hard work
- A gold or white candle – to light your space with sunfire energy
Recipe Ingredients:
- 4 cups warm water
- 3 tablespoons yeast
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- ¾ cup honey
- 9 cups bread flour
- 2 ½ cups quick oats
- 4 teaspoons salt
🔮 The Spell:
1. Ground and Center
Light your candle. Stand still. Feel your feet on the Earth. Breathe deep.
“Blessed Earth, strong Sun above,
Guide my hands with peace and love.”
2. Mix with Intention
Pour the 4 cups of warm water into your mixing bowl. Whisper “May flow and grace guide me forward.“
Add the yeast. Whisper “May my dreams rise, bold and light.” Let the yeast sit until foamy.
Add: ½ cup oil and all of honey. Whisper “May sweetness and wisdom fill my days.”
Add and mix in bread flour and quick oats and 4 teaspoon salt. Whisper “May all that I have planted bear fruit.” and “May I be protected, held, and whole.”
3. Knead with Power
Knead well by hand or use a knead hook for 15 minutes.
Knead slowly, mindfully. Speak this charm with each motion:
“With each fold, I press my will,
With each turn, the world is still.
In this bread, my magic grows—
As above, and so below.”
Visualize a warm golden light moving from your hands into the dough.
Form into a smooth “blob” and cut into 4 semi-equal pieces.
Form into 4 balls and cover with dish cloth. Let rise about 15 – 20 minutes.
Punch down and form into loaves and or rolls.
Put on lightly greased pans.
4. Let It Rise, Let It Speak
Let rise until doubled in size.
As the dough rests, write in your journal. Reflect:
What am I ready to receive?
What am I harvesting in my life?
What blessings have I earned?
5. Bake with Gratitude
Bake at 350 degrees for 30 mins (loaves) or 20 mins (rolls).Butter tops if desired.
As your bread bakes, the spell seals. Feel the scent fill your space like sacred smoke.
6. Break Bread with Intention
Hold the fresh loaf in your hands. Whisper:
“This is the work of my hands.
This is the gift of the Earth.
I eat with gratitude.
I share with joy.
I receive with grace.”
Eat slowly. Share, if you can. Each bite carries your intention into the world.
